SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State earned straight set singles wins from

The Hornets, who were playing their third straight road match to begin the season, improved to 1-2. The Beavers were playing their season opener.
Sacramento State used four freshmen, a sophomore and a senior in the singles lineup, and each player won convincingly. That included Lamchinniah at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Bowles at No. 2 (6-2, 6-4), Libal at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4), Rand at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3), Duris at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and Whitehead at No. 6 (6-3, 6-1).
In doubles, the teams of Lamchinniah/Rand (6-3), Bowles/Libal (6-3) and Duris/Whitehead (6-0) each posted victories.
The Hornets were playing the first of a stretch of three road matches over a five-day span. That includes Friday at Seattle (3 p.m.) and Sunday at Portland State (10 a.m.).
Sacramento State had a pair of home matches canceled last week because of inclement weather. Now, each of the team's first five matches of the season will come away from home.
