OGDEN, Utah -- Despite a convincing win from
Henry Lamchinniah at No. 1, Sacramento State fell on the road at Weber State, 6-1, on Friday morning at the Ogden Athletic Club.
Playing indoors, the Hornets dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Big Sky Conference. Today is the first of a stretch that will see Sacramento State play two indoor conference matches over a three-day span. That includes a matchup at Idaho State on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
Weber State won its third straight while improving to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in league play.
As has been the case in every contest this season, the Hornets used four freshmen in the singles lineup.
The Wildcats opened the match by winning at Nos. 2 and 3 to secure the doubles point. Lamchinniah then tied the match at 1-1 after making quick work of his opponent at No. 1 singles, winning by a 6-0, 6-1 score. The sophomore improved to a season-best 6-2 in singles play this season, all at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
Weber State, however, would win every other singles match. Two of those went to three sets, as there were a number of close outcomes. Both
Martin Duris (No. 5) and
David Dai (No. 6) took their matches to a third set.
After Sunday's match at Idaho State, the Hornets will begin a season-long six-match homestand next week.
