ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Sacramento State gymnastics team recorded its second win in three days as it downed Alaska Anchorage, 194.575-193.300, on Sunday afternoon at the Alaska Airlines Center. The Hornets were led by event wins from
Sarah Lutrel on vault,
Hannah Sitzman on bars,
Emma Morgenthaler on beam and
Athena Jones on floor.

Sacramento State found itself in a deficit after the first rotation as the team was forced to count a low score resulting in a team score of 48.025 on the event compared to 48.275 on vault from the Seawolves. Sitzman claimed sole possession of first place after scoring 9.800. The victory was her fourth of the season and second on bars on the weekend. Jones and Morgenthaler tied for second place with 9.750s .

The Hornets took the lead and never looked back during the second rotation. Sacramento State completed vault with a team score of 48.575 and was led by Lutrel who scored 9.800 to earn her eighth career win in the event.
Rylin Zimmerman was second overall with a 9.775 while Morgenthaler tied for third place at 9.725. Due to injuries, the team used just five gymnasts on vault but saw all five score 9.625 or better.

On floor, the Hornets scored a season-best 49.100 during the third rotation. Jones set her season high and matched her career best with a 9.900. That score tied Alaska's Montana Fairbairn for the top spot and gave Jones at least a share of first place on floor for the second time this season and fourth time in her career.

Sacramento State wrapped up the meet on beam with a 48.875. Morgenthaler tied her season best with her second 9.800 on the weekend on beam to tie for first place alongside the Seawolves' Claudia Lessig. The Hornets accounted for a three-way tie for third place with Lutrel, Jones and
Kaitlyn Driessen each scoring 9.775.

Morgenthaler broke 39 points in the all-around for the second time in Anchorage. The senior totaled 39.150 to set a season high and earn her third all-around title this season.

The meet capped six consecutive contests away from home for Sacramento State and will be the final road meet this season for the Hornets until they return to Anchorage for the MPSF Championships. The team will start three straight home meets beginning on Friday, Feb. 28, against Southern Utah at 7 p.m.
