1. What's At Stake
Both teams enter the game with identical 4-4 overall records and are both fighting for the playoff lives. After starting conference play with a loss at Montana State, EWU has won its last three games with victories over Idaho, Portland State and Weber State. Sacramento State has won two of its last three and four of its last six. Eastern Washington is in sole possession of fourth place in the Big Sky standings while the Hornets are tied for fifth.
Â
2. In Living Color
No need to adjust your color balance on Saturday as the Hornets will be playing on The Inferno — the electric red turf at Roos Field. The turf was installed in 2010 and Sacramento State picked up its first victory on the surface in 2022 with 52-28 win. The Hornets have previous played on the blue turf at Boise State and welcomed Central Arkansas this year which has one of the more
unique fields in college football.
Â
3. That Doesn't Look Right
The all-time series between the Eagles and Hornets have some unusual splits. EWU has won 20 of the 26 meetings, including a dominant 13-1 record at Hornet Stadium. Conversely, Sacramento State has had a good amount of success in Cheney, Wash., winning five of 12 games. Three of those five victories have come by three points or less and another came in a seven-point win by the Hornets.
Â
4. Beat The Streak
The game could very well be decided by turnovers. Eastern Washington has collected at least one interception in its last six games and are led by Jaylon Jenkins who has four interceptions during the run. The Hornets have nine interceptions of their own and are tied for 10
th in the FCS. The team is led by
Koa Akui who has four interceptions. The other five picks come from
Oscar Moore,
Jason Oliver,
Ricky Lee III,
Lamont Johnson-Burrell and
Lono Chouteau.
