SCOUTING UC DAVIS
• The Aggies enter the final week of the regular season with a 3-8-5 overall record with all three wins coming in Big West Conference play, where they are 3-3-2 on the year
• UC Davis split a pair of 2-1 decisions last week, falling at UC Irvine before heading up the road in Orange County to defeat Cal State Fullerton with a goal in the final minute
• The Aggies have battled to one-goal decisions in each of their last five matches, winning three and losing a pair
• At home, UC Davis is 2-3-2 this season and is unbeaten in its last three (2-0-1) with wins over UC Riverside and CSUN and a scoreless draw with UC Santa Barbara
• Senior forward Cason Goodman leads the team in scoring with 16 points, scoring four goals and assisting on another
• Eight different Aggies have found the back of the net, six of them with multiple goals
• Senior goalkeeper Noah Schwengeler has started all but one match this year, posting a 1.34 goals against average and 45 saves (.714 save percentage) to go with a pair of shutouts
SERIES NOTABLES
• UC Davis leads the all-time series with Sacramento State, 23-13-2
• The Aggies won last year's meeting in Sacramento by a 4-2 score, avenging a 1-0 Hornet win in Davis in 2023
• That win in Davis ended an eight-match winning streak for the Aggies in the series -- the longest winning run by either school in the history of the series
• Prior to last year's final, the previous seven matches between the two rivals had been decided by a single goal
• Seven of the Hornets' 13 wins in the series have come on the Aggies' home turf where Sacramento State is 7-10-1 in the series
• UC Davis leads the all-time series as Big West Conference rivals, 11-5-2
• The 2023 victory for the Hornets, ended a four-match losing streak in Davis dating back to the 2017 season
IT TAKES TWO TO TRIUMPH
• Sacramento State's two goals in the win over UC San Diego last week marked only the third time this year that the Hornets have scored multiple goals in a match
• Two goals were enough to defeat Pacific back on Sept. 11 on the road, while Sacramento State posted a pair of second-half goals to come back against CSUN for a draw on Oct. 8
• Prior to Saturday the last time that the Hornets had scored multiple goals at home was against UC Davis on Nov. 2 of last season
CLASS IS IN SESSOMS
• Junior Donovan Sessoms made his second goal of the season a memorable one, curling in an "Olympico" off a corner in the 14th minute for a 1-0 lead
• It was Sessoms' first score since netting a penalty in the season opener at Stanford and the 12th goal of his career -- moving him five back of the top 10 on the school's all-time list
• The goal pushed him back atop the list, leading the team now with seven points
ZAC ATTACK
• Junior Zac Giles now has two game-winning goals to his name after netting his second of the year against UC San Diego last week, making him the fourth Hornet to notch multiple goals this season
• Giles' first goal this season -- and the first of his career -- accounted for the game-winner in a 2-1 win at Pacific
• With his second game-winner, Giles moved into a tie for the top spot in the Big West in that category alongside five other league standouts
STOP RIGHT THERE
• Senior goalkeeper Andres Rosales finished with nine saves in the Hornets' match against UC Santa Barbara last Wednesday -- seven of those, which would have tied his career high in the green and gold, came in the first 45 minutes alone
• The nine saves were the most by a Sacramento State keeper this season and tied for the most by a keeper in the Big West Conference, matching CSUN's Dorian Drucks, who had nine against Biola back on Aug. 30
• Rosales' nine stops were the most by a Hornet keeper since Mac Learned stopped nine against San Francisco on Sept. 12 last year
• Entering this week a Sacramento State goalkeeper holds four of the top 10 single-match save totals in the Big West this year: Rosales (t1st - 9 at UCSB), Rosales (t6th - 7 at Pacific and San Francisco), and Bost (t6th - 7 vs. Cal State Fullerton)
FITTING FINISH
• Saturday marks the third consecutive season and the seventh time in the last eight years dating back to 2017 that rivals Sacramento State and UC Davis will end the regular season against one another
• Prior to that, the rivals clashed in the season's finale only twice in the previous 30 years
ALRIGHT... WE'LL CALL IT A DRAW
• Thanks to their 1-1 draw with Cal Poly on Oct. 15, the Hornets tallied their fourth draw of the season -- tied for the second-most in a single season in program history according to records that date back to 1986
• The record of seven was set during the 2010 campaign when Sacramento State finished 11-5-7
ON THE SPOT
• With Hiroshi Yang's penalty against Saint Mary's on Sept. 19, the Hornets have now converted their last 13 consecutive tries from the spot dating back to a miss against San Francisco on the road on Sept. 23, 2018
• Prior to that, Sacramento State made eight straight penalties, extending their streak to 21 of its last 22 dating back to 2015
• Sacramento State is 3-for-3 in penalties this season, adding makes against No. 13 Stanford and Pacific, matching its total from last season and posting the most makes from the spot since the Hornets were 4-for-4 in 2012
HORNETS IN THE BIG WEST
• Junior Donovan Sessoms is fifth in the league with 37 shot attempts and 2.31 shot attempts per match
• Sessoms' 16 shots on goal are fourth in the league
• Sessoms' team-high three assists are tied for ninth in the conference
• Sessoms' seven shots against UC San Diego last week were a season-high by a Hornet and ranks tied for fourth by a Big West player in a match this year
• With 49 saves, senior goalkeeper Andres Rosales leads the team and ranks fourth in the Big West entering the week, while his 4.90 saves per game leads the Big West
• Rosales ranks eighth with a .710 save percentage
• As a team, Sacramento State's 86 saves lead the Big West while the team's 5.06 saves per match lead the league and are among the top 20 in the nation (No. 11)
