SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State received 17 kills from
Victoria Marthaler, and the Hornets hit .405 on the way to a sweep of Idaho (25-18, 25-18, 25-15) on Thursday evening at the Nest.
Sacramento State's .405 hitting percentage was its second highest total of the season, as the team finished with 44 kills and just 10 errors in 84 swings. Five starters hit better than .340, comprised of
Greta Davis (6 kills, .750),
Ashlynn Archer (8 kills, .583),
Keonahi'ilani Solaita (10 kills, .471),
Skyler Gartin (2 kills, .400) and Marthaler (17 kills, .344).Â
Idaho hit just .136 and finished with 15 less kills than the Hornets. The match finished in a swift one hour and 18 minutes.
The Hornets improved their home winning streak to seven matches while moving to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky Conference. Sacramento State has now reached the midway point of the conference season, and will attempt to complete a perfect 4-0 homestand when it hosts Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon.
Sacramento State has not lost at home since a five-set defeat to Pepperdine in late August. During the seven-match win streak, the Hornets have dropped just three sets. In addition, Sacramento State moved its record in the Nest to 73-12 against Big Sky opposition since 2015. A win on Saturday would give the program 700 victories since joining the Div. I ranks in 1991 (currently 699-431, .619 win%).
The Hornets have also defeated Idaho on 10 straight occasions. The Vandals have not beaten the Hornets since 2019.
Marthaler had 17 kills in just three sets, and has now registered 16+ kills in nine straight matches. Archer's eight kills accompanied a match-high five blocks. Davis' hitting percentage was a career best, Solaita's hitting percentage was a career best, and
Reese Ampi's four aces were a career best. Ampi also had a match-high 12 digs to go with the aces.
Setter
Kate Doorn had 36 assists, two aces and seven digs, and has now quarterbacked Sacramento State's offensive attack to hitting percentages above .300 in eight of the last 12 matches.
Sacramento State wraps up its season-long four-match homestand on Saturday when the team hosts Eastern Washington at 1 p.m. Saturday is Kids Day, and Hornet players will sign autographs on free team posters after the match.
