ROSALES SETS NEW HORNET CAREER HIGH AT UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Senior goalkeeper Andres Rosales turned away a career-high nine shots, but single goals in each half on Wednesday night were enough to lift host UC Santa Barbara to a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Rosales' nine stops are the most by a Hornet goalkeeper this season and tied for the most by a keeper in the Big West Conference, matching CSUN's Dorian Drucks, who had nine against Biola back on Aug. 30. The nine saves were also the most by a Sacramento State goalkeeper since Mac Learned stopped nine shots against San Francisco on Sept. 12 of last season.

Junior Donovan Sessoms and sophomore Eli Reyneveld finished with four shots apiece as the Hornets finished with 14 overall — tied for the team's second-highest single-match total this season behind only the 15 shot attempts at CSUN on Oct. 8.

UC Santa Barbara's goals came in the 27th and 60th minutes on Wednesday night en route to the win, but had two other scores wiped away — the first in the 49th minute after review ruled a Gaucho player was offside and another later in the match after a foul was whistled in the box. UCSB also put one off the crossbar in the 83rd minute.

Seven of Rosales' nine saves — which would have tied his career high — came in the first 45 minutes alone, keeping his side close at the break.

Reyneveld and Sean Battistessa then both tested Gaucho keeper Owen Beninga with attempts just 20 seconds apart in the second half, while Reyneveld was able to get off a bicycle kick in traffic in the 71st minute, only to have a UCSB defender stand in the right place at the right time to chest the attempt off the line and preserve the shutout.

Sacramento State welcomes UC San Diego on Saturday (Oct. 25) at 3 p.m., for the final home match of the 2025 season. The Hornets will honor their senior class prior to kick-off against the Tritons at approximately 2:45 p.m.
