SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team remained undefeated with a 194.625-193.825 win over San Jose State on Sunday at The Nest. The Hornets earned event victories from Grace Gilman, Chloe Cohen and Athena Jones to start the season 3-0 for the first time in the school's Div. I history (1992-pres.).
 
The Hornets opened the meet on vault with a 48.825 while the Spartans scored 47.525 on bars. Gilman started the meet with a 9.800 and tied for the individual win in the event along with San Jose State's Madison Kirsch. Rose Wilson followed with a 9.750 before freshman Kaitlyn Driessen posted a 9.775. The team went to count 9.750s from Rylin Zimmerman and Sarah Lutrel.
 
Sacramento State maintained its lead through the remaining three rotations. The Hornets totaled 48.050 on bars led by a 9.800 from Chloe Cohen. Like Gilman on vault, the redshirt freshman recorded her score from the leadoff position. Athena Jones tied for third at 9.725 and Kara Houghton tied for fifth at 9.700.
 
In the third rotation, the Hornets scored 49.075 on beam compared to a 48.550 on floor from SJSU. Jones led the team, and tied for first place in the meet with a 9.850. Gilman, Emma Morgenthaler and Sarah Lutrel were close behind and tied for fourth place with each scoring 9.825. The team total is tied for the 10^th-highest in school history in the event.
 
The highest scores for Sacramento State came from the first and last gymnasts in the lineup. Simone Dumas-Guzman opened with a 9.775 and that score was later matched by Jones from the anchor spot. The pair tied for second place in the meet. Olivia Schmitt and Sarah Lutrel each received a 9.750 to tie for fourth place overall.
 
Sacramento State will continue its homestand to begin the year as it welcomes Cornell and Alaska Anchorage on Friday at 7 p.m.
