SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State sophomore goalkeeper Izzy Palmatier was named the Big Sky Conference women's soccer defensive player of the week on Tuesday after a career day between the pipes for the Hornets in their scoreless draw with Cal Poly.
It is the second career weekly award from the conference office for Palmatier, who picked up her first honor on Oct. 17 of last season after averaging 8.00 saves per match and totaling 16 overall in road draws at Weber State and Idaho State.
Last week, the Folsom, Calif., native had herself a day in net against the Mustangs, finishing with a career-high 11 saves en route to her first shutout of the year in the team's only match of the week. The performance was her second career match with 10-or-more saves, breaking her previous best of 10 set in that aforementioned match at Weber State on Oct. 13 of last year.
Palmatier stopped five shots in the first half against Cal Poly and added six more in the second, while also helping to successfully defend six Mustang corners.Â
The performance by Palmatier put her just one shy of the program's all-time single-match top 10 and were the most by a Hornet keeper since Mia Shalit finished with the same number against Northern Arizona on Oct. 21, 2022.
With the Hornets unbeaten in their last three matches (1-0-2), Palmatier enters the week ranked second in the Big Sky in goals against average (1.00), first in save percentage (.840), second in saves per game (5.25 spg), and third in overall saves (21).
After finishing up a three-match homestand against Cal Poly, Sacramento State hits the road for the first time since its season opener this week, traveling to the Pacific Northwest for matches against Portland (Sept. 5) and Oregon (Sept. 8).
