SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State Director of Athletics Mark Orr has been appointed to the NCAA Div. I Football Championship Committee. Orr will begin four-year term on Sept. 1.
Orr will serve as the Big Sky Conference representative on the committee which is tasked for selected the 24 teams that compete in the FCS Playoffs. The eight-member committee will have the added challenge in 2024 of seeding the top 16 teams in the field as opposed to eight seeds in previous years.
"I am honored to receive the appointment to represent Sacramento State and the Big Sky Conference on the FCS Playoff Committee," Orr said. "I'm excited to work with the other members of the committee from around the country to create the best postseason experience possible for both student-athletes and fans."
The 2024 NCAA Div. I Football Championship Committee will be chaired by North Dakota State's Matt Larsen. Other members are comprised of Drake AD Brain Hardin (Pioneer Football League), Chattanooga AD Mark Wharton (Southern Conference), UAlbany AD Mark Benson (Coastal Athletic Association), Houston Christian AD Steve Moniaci (Southland Conference), Central Connecticut State AD Thomas Pincince (Northeast Conference), Fordham AD Edward Kull (Patriot League) and Austin Peay AD Gerald Harrison (United Athletic Conference).
Along with being named to the NCAA FCS Committee, Orr will serve a second term on the FCS ADA Executive Committee in 2024-25. That committee will be guided by Mark Benson of UAlbany who will serve as president. UT-Martin's Kurt McGuffin will be the first vice president and will be joined on the staff by Sherryta Freeman (Lafayette College, second vice president) and Skip Perkins (North Carolina Central, third vice president).
Now in its 31st year, the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association's mission is to enhance Football Championship Subdivision football. The remainder of the committee is comprised of Tim Murray (Marist), John Mack (Princeton), Bill Chaves (North Dakota), Ryan Kelly (Long Island), Jonathan Terrell (Nicholls), Chris Robinson (Arkansas Pine Bluff) and Ken Beazer (Utah Tech).
