BERKELEY, Calif. — Kara Houghton completed the season for the Sacramento State gymnastics team by competing as a bars specialist at the NCAA California Regional on Friday afternoon. Houghton scored 9.775 and tied for 21st place in the event.
The sophomore's score is tied for the fifth-highest on bars in school NCAA postseason history. Houghton, who was making her first NCAA Regional appearance, finished the season with an average of 9.783 which is tied for the sixth-highest all-time at Sacramento State. Her National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.875 set the school record.
Houghton competed in the first session of the second round of the regional. The Parker, Colo., native was the final competitor on bars in the competition. The meet was won by sixth-ranked Denver with a team total of 197.275. Arizona State claimed the second spot in the regional final outscoring UCLA, 197.150 to 197.050. The individual title on bars was shared between five gymnasts who each scored 9.900.
