MISSOULA, Mont. -- Sacramento State won the doubles point, and received singles victories from
Mark Keki,
Mate Voros,
Jan Silva and
Rudolfs Aksenoks on the way to a 5-2 road win at Montana.
Despite playing indoors for just the second time all season, the Hornets beat a Montana squad that had been 11-6 overall and 5-0 at home entering today.
Sacramento State, currently 2-0 on a stretch of six straight matches vs. Big Sky Conference competition, improved to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in league. The Hornets conclude their trip to The Treasure State on Saturday with a matchup at Montana State.
The Hornets began today's contest by taking the doubles point, receiving wins from Keki/Voros (6-1 at No. 1), and
Adam Chodur/
Hayden Rand (6-4 at No. 2).
In a match that featured a number of close sets in singles play, Sacramento State outlasted the Griz. That included wins from Keki (7-6, 6-3 at No. 1), Voros (6-4, 7-6 at No. 2), Silva (6-3, 6-4 at No. 3), and Aksenoks (3-6, 6-4, 10-6 at No. 6).
With the Hornets leading, 3-1, Voros clinched the victory after winning his second set tiebreaker by a 9-7 score. The two teams were playing on four courts, so the Hornets had already clinched by the time Aksenoks took the court at No. 6, which is why he played a super tiebreaker in the third.
Keki won his sixth straight singles match while improving to 10-2 this season (all at No. 1), including 4-0 vs. Big Sky opponents. In addition, Keki/Voros won their sixth straight doubles match (all at No. 1).
