SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team ended its season with the fourth-highest score in school history as it totaled 196.125 at the MPSF Championships at The Nest on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets finished third in a tightly-contested meet which was won by #31 Southern Utah which scored a conference-record 196.625. UC Davis was just one-tenth behind in second place while Alaska Anchorage finished fourth at 191.750.
The Hornets' score was the second-best in school history at the MPSF Championships and extended the team's streak to three consecutive meets of at least 195 points. Sacramento State finished the year scoring 195-plus in six of its last seven meets with the lone exception being a 194.900.
The team began the meet on beam where it totaled 49.025 which tied its second highest score of the season on the event.
Emma Morgenthaler started the lineup with a 9.825 which tied her career high and tied her for seventh in the meet.
Athena Jones matched that total while
Mallory Barron and Kara Hougton each score 9.800.
The Hornets had an identical team score on floor. As has been the case for much of the season, the rotation started with the first four gymnasts scoring 9.725 twice and 9.775 twice.
Grace Gilman raised the bar with a 9.850 to tie her season high before Lutrel took it a step further with a 9.900. That score set Lutrel's career high and placed her in second place in the meet only behind UC Davis' Keanna Abraham who received a 9.925.
Sacramento State completed vault with a total of 48.900. Morgenthaler matched her career best with a 9.900 to tie for first place in the meet along with Southern Utah's Brinlee Christensen. Freshman
Rose Wilson matched her season best with a 9.825.
The team completed the meet on bars and scored 49.025. Lutrel led off with a 9.800 which was later matched by
Jillianne Lastra.
Bella Lahmidi ended her collegiate career with a 9.875 to set a career high and tie for fourth place. Houghton then won the meet with a 9.925.
Southern Utah's Niya Randolph, who was the MPSF Gymnast of the Year, won the all-around with a total of 39.375.
Sarah Lutrel finished a three-way tie for second place at 39.275.
