USAFA, Colo. — Sarah Lutrel tied for first place on floor and both Lutrel and
Emma Morgenthaler set season bests in the all-around to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team in a three-team meet at Air Force. The Hornets placed third in a tightly-contested three-team meet after scoring 194.475. The host Falcons won the meet with a score of 194.875 while Southeast Missouri was second at 194.575.
Sacramento State began the meet on beam and found themselves in an immediate hole after having to count a fall. The team totaled 48.175 which left them nearly a point behind SEM and a quarter of a point off of the Falcons. The rotation started strong for the team as Morgenthaler and
Grace Gilman each scored 9.775. The team then encountered falls on its next two routines but was able to bounce back with a 9.825 from Lutrel and a 9.775 from
Kara Houghton. Lutrel's score tied Air Force's Maggie Slife for the high on the night.
The Hornets moved on to floor and totaled 48.700 to draw closer to both teams. Houghton scored a 9.875 in her first competitive routine of the year. Following a 9.775 from
Athena Jones, Morgenthaler matched Houghton's score and the pair tied for third overall.
Sacramento State scored repeated its team score on beam but lost ground to both teams as Air Force scored 48.800 on beam and SEMO 49.175 on floor. The Hornets counted five scores between 9.675 and 9.775. The team lead was shared by
Rose Wilson, Morgenthaler and Lutrel.
The team rallied during the final rotation, scoring a season high 48.900 on bars. The back half of the lineup provided the three highest scores as
Jillianne Lastra received a 9.825,
Bella Lahmidi 9.800 and Houghton a 9.875 to finish in second place.
Air Force freshman Maggie Slife had a spectacular night, winning the all-around with a total of 39.425. Slife was also first on vault (9.850) and bars (9.900) and tied for first on beam (9.825). Morgenthaler was second in the all-around at 39.075 while Lutrel placed fourth at 39.025. The meet marked the first time either broke 39 points this sason.
Sacramento State will next compete in a three-team meet at Boise State and against Southern Utah next Friday in Boise, Idaho.
