MEN’S TENNIS WINS 4TH STRAIGHT, EARNS 4-1 ROAD VICTORY AT SAINT MARY’S

MORAGA, Calif. -- Sacramento State received straight set singles wins from Mark Keki, Mate Voros and Adam Chodur to beat Saint Mary's, 4-1, at the Korth Tennis Center.

The Hornets won their fourth straight while improving to 5-1 on the young season. Today was the first of a four-match road trip that will take Sacramento State through February. The Hornets improved their winning streak over the Gaels to four straight, and five of the last six.

Sacramento State began the match by picking up the doubles point. The Hornets earned victories at No. 1 from Keki/Voros (6-2), and at No. 3 from Jan Silva/Jiri Novak (6-4).

The Hornets then received singles victories from Keki at No. 1 (6-1, 7-6), Voros at No. 2 (7-6, 7-6) and Chodur at No. 4 (7-6, 7-6). The two teams combined to play five tiebreakers. Silva and Novak were both in the third set when their matches were halted because Sacramento State had already clinched the win.

Sacramento State's lone singles loss came at No. 6 where Rudolfs Aksenoks fell, 6-4, 7-5.

"The guys showed a lot of passion and will, and we were very proud of their effort," Sacramento State head coach Kevin Kurtz said. "There were many tight sets, and our guys found a way to consistently win the clutch points."

The Hornets return to action for a pair of matches next week on Friday at San Francisco (11 am start) and 15th-ranked Stanford on Saturday at 1 p.m.
