GYMNASTICS SETS SEASON HGH; LUTREL RECORDS CAREER HIGH

Hornets finish in third place with score of 195.225

BOISE, Idaho — Sarah Lutrel scored a career high in the all-around and the Sacramento State gymnastics team recorded its highest score of the season in a three-team meet at ExtraMile Arena on Friday night. The meet was won by Boise State which scored 196.650. Southern Utah was second at 196.250 while the Hornets score 195.225.

Sacramento State opened the meet on beam and scored a season-best 48.700. Emma Morgenthaler led off with a 9.700 and was followed by a 9.725 from Grace Gilman. Lutrel had the high score for the team and tied for fourth overall with a 9.825 before Kara Houghton completed the rotation with a 9.775 to tie for sixth place.

The team moved on to floor and scored 49.050 — its highest score on any event this season. Simone Dumas-Guzman and Kara Houghton each received 9.800s to start the lineup. Athena Jones followed with a 9.775 before Emma Morgenthaler added a team-best 9.850 which tied her for fifth place. Lutrel completed the lineup with a 9.825.

Sacramento State scored 48.800 on vault in the third rotation. The team counted four scores of 9.750 or above led by a 9.825 from Lutrel and a 9.800 from Morgenthaler.

The team ended the meet on bars where it scored 48.675. Lutrel led off with a 9.700 to complete her all-around. Freshman Rose Wilson and Jillianne Lastra each received a 9.800 to lead the team. Bella Lahmidi completed the team total with a 9.750.

Lutrel totaled 39.175 to better her previous best of 39.150 set last season. Emma Morgenthaler totaled 38.975. The all-around was won by Southern Utah's Niya Randolph with a total of 39.225.

Sacramento State will return home to host Air Force on Friday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in The Nest.
