STANFORD, Calif. -- Sacramento State's historic season came to an end Friday night in an NCAA Tournament first round matchup at 5th-ranked Stanford, 3-0. Set scores were 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 as the Hornets hung with the nation's fifth ranked team in each of the three frames.

Stanford and its lineup featuring multiple All-Americans finished the match hitting .392. The Cardinal had 15 more kills than Sacramento State while also tallying 12 aces. Stanford (26-4) advances to the second round of the tournament where it will host Loyola Marymount tomorrow at 6 p.m. LMU beat Washington in five sets in tonight's first match.
The Hornets received nine kills from both
Bridgette Smith and
Caitlin Volkmann, and
Ellie Tisko had seven kills with a .636 hitting percentage. The three seniors combined for 25 of the team's 28 kills, and Sacramento State finished the match hitting a respectable .212 against a Stanford squad with plenty of size. Tisko's seven kills came without an error in 11 swings and her hitting percentage was a match best.
Ashlynn Archer had two kills and two blocks,
Kate Doorn 18 assists, an ace and five digs, and
Hailey Plugge had seven assists.
Skyler Gartin added a kill and two blocks, and
Reese Ampi four digs, an ace and three assists.
Tonight also marked the final indoor matches in what is regarded as one of the best senior classes in program history - Smith, Volkmann, Tisko and Plugge.
