2024 Season
Played in all 33 matches (starting each), and all 127 sets…named first team all-Big Sky Conference for the fourth straight season, becoming the first player in program history to achieve the feat…also named second team in 2020 (pandemic season), becoming the first five-time all-conference selection in school history…named the Big Sky Tournament MVP after leading the Hornets to a tourney title and NCAA Tournament appearance…led the Big Sky in kills (4.17 kps), aces (0.62 aps) and points (4.94 pps)…her 79 aces were the second best mark in the nation, and established a new Sacramento State single-season record…the 0.62 aces per set ranked fourth in the country…also led the Big Sky (in conference play) in kills (4.19 kps), aces (0.75 aps) and points (5.08 pps)…had 28 matches with double figures in kills, and 10 with more than 20 kills…finished career with 103 double-figure kill matches…also had 15 double-doubles during the season…in one of the more clutch performances in school history, Smith had a career-high 30 kills to go with a .464 hitting percentage, four aces and 13 digs in the Hornets’ five-set win over Northern Colorado in the Big Sky Tournament championship match…also during the tournament, she had 21 kills in the quarterfinals, and 17 kills in the semifinals…named all-tourney at every preseason tournament the Hornets played, including being named co-MVP of the Sacramento State Invitational…among the nation’s leaders, she was second in aces, ninth in points (627.5) and 16th in kills (530)…two-time Big Sky Player of the Week selection…team captain…a Big Sky all-academic choice for the fifth straight year…among Sacramento State career leaders, Smith ranks among the the program’s top 10 in nine different categories, including second in kills (1,829), third in aces (216) and points (2,155), fourth in sets played (525), and seventh in kills per set (3.48) and points per set (4.10)…led the Hornets in kills all five seasons of her career.
2023 Season
Named the Big Sky MVP, honorable mention All-America, honorable mention all-Pacific North Region, and first team all-conference after helping the Hornets to a regular season title…started all 31 matches she appeared…was a six-rotation outside hitter…became just the second All-American during the program's Div. I era (1991-pres.), and first since 1995…also became just the fourth All-American in Big Sky history…became first Sacramento State player to win Big Sky MVP honors since 2017 (Kennedy Kurtz)…second Hornet outside hitter to win Big Sky MVP honors (Jill Haas in 1996)…is now a three-time first team all-Big Sky selection…becomes first Sacramento State outside hitter to earn first team all-Big Sky accolades on three occasions…one of four Hornets to be named first team all-Big Sky on three occasions (setters Lisa Beauchene and Maureen Rafferty; middle blocker Lindsay Haupt)…four-time all-conference performer - second team in 2020; first team 2021-23…finished with averages of 3.65 kills, 2.35 digs, 0.29 aces and 4.20 points per set…the kills and points per set both ranked second in the Big Sky…named all-tournament at both the Hornet Invitational and Gator Invitational…in conference play, she ranked second in the league in both kills (4.00 kps) and points (4.63 pps), and seventh in aces (0.33 per set)… tallied double-figure kills on 25 occasions, including 14 of the last 15 matches of the season…has now led the Hornets in kills all four seasons of her career…a Big Sky all-academic selection for the fourth straight season.
2022 Season
A first team all-Big Sky Conference selection…team tri-captain…has been named all-league each of her three seasons, including back-to-back years on the first team…became just the fourth Hornet outside hitter to be named first team all-Big Sky multiple times since the program joined the league in 1996…she joins Mikaela Nocetti (2017-18), Atlee Hubbard (2005-06) and Carissa Buie (1997-98)…no Hornet outside hitter has done it three times…played in 28 matches (24 starts) and 114 sets…missed two matches, and played DS in four matches because of an injured ankle…in conference play, she averaged a team-best 3.49 kills, 0.41 aces, 2.26 digs, 0.56 blocks and 4.20 points per set…in Big Sky rankings, she was second in aces, fourth in points, and fifth in kills…her total of 48 aces ranked 34th in the nation…overall, she averaged 2.86 kills, 0.42 aces, 2.32 digs and 0.46 blocks per set…the kills and blocks averages were dragged down because of the ankle injury suffered early in the season…posted double figures in kills 20 times during the season…had eight double-doubles…11 matches with double digits in digs…a Big Sky all-academic selection for the third straight season.
2021 Season
A first team all-Big Sky Conference selection after starting all 28 matches and appearing in all 102 sets…a full-rotation outside hitter, Smith was the only Hornet to start all 28 matches…became the first Hornet underclassman to be named first team all-Big Sky since middle blocker Lindsay Haupt accomplished the feat in 2005…Smith is also the first Hornet underclassman outside hitter to earn first team recognition since the program joined the Big Sky in 1996…was named the Big Sky’s Freshman of the Year last season…averaged 3.43 kills, 2.58 digs, 0.35 aces, 0.35 blocks and 4.00 points per set…easily led the Hornets in kills…in Big Sk play, she led the conference with an average of 3.73 kills per set…posted double figures in kills on 21 occasions, double-digit digs 15 times, and posted 10 double-doubles…had double-doubles in four of the last five matches of the season…had double figures in kills in 14 of the 17 matches the Hornets played against a Big Sky opponent…led the Hornets in kills in 20 of the 28 matches…that included 20 kills in the Hornets’ Big Sky Tournament matchup with Portland State…named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 15…a Big Sky all-academic selection.
2021 Spring Season
A second team all-conference selection and the Big Sky Conference’s Freshman of the Year…became the Hornets’ first Big Sky Freshman of the Year since 2004 (middle blocker Lindsay Haupt), and one of just three Hornets to win the award (setter Maureen Rafferty in 1996)…only Hornet outside hitter to ever accomplish the feat…six-rotation outside hitter that started all 17 matches and played all 63 sets…averaged 3.00 kills, 2.44 digs, 0.30 aces and 3.45 digs per set…led the team and ranked seventh in the conference in kills…had nine matches with double figures in kills, eight with double digits in digs, and six double-doubles…posted 20 kills in a win over Portland State, the most by a Hornet during the season…had at least 12 kills in four of her final five matches of the season…a Big Sky all-academic selection.
High School
A 2020 graduate of Sprague High School in Salem, Ore…played four years of volleyball for the Olympians, including her final three seasons on the varsity squad…named first team all-Mountain Valley Conference and first team all-Mid Valley each of those three seasons on varsity…as a senior, Smith was named second team all-state, Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year, Statesmen Journal all-Mid Valley Player of the Year, and Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Player of the Year after finishing with 509 kills, 295 digs and 67 aces…as the team’s starting outside hitter from 2017-19, she helped Sprague to three straight conference championships, a 63-20 combined overall record, 40-4 league mark, and an appearance in the 2018 state championship game…was named first team all-state tournament in 2018 after Sprague’s run to the title match…during her three varsity seasons, she combined for 1,175 kills, 1,063 digs and 178 aces…Smith is the school’s all-time leader in career kills and aces, and ranks second in digs…named all-academic all four years of high school.
Personal
Parents are Sean and Gina Smith…a biology major who will graduate in the spring of 2025…played from 2015-20 for the North Pacific Juniors Volleyball Club in Salem, Ore…helped the team to a bronze medal (USA Division) at the 2019 nationals…sister, Delaney Smith, played at middle blocker for Western Oregon (2019-22).
