MEN’S BASKETBALL OVERCOMES BIG DEFICIT TO POST 63-61 ROAD WIN AT AIR FORCE

USAFA, Colo. -- Sacramento State overcame a 17-point first half deficit to beat Air Force, 63-61, on Wednesday afternoon at Clune Arena.

The Hornets trailed, 32-15, with 2:24 left in the first half, but outscored the Falcons, 48-29, over the final 22:11 of game clock. Along the way, Sacramento State, which trailed, 33-22, at halftime, opened the second half on a 12-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 34-33 at the 16:50 mark.

From there, no team led by more than three points the next 13 minutes of game clock. Sacramento State found separation with a 6-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 62-56 with 2:32 to play. Though the Hornets scored just one point the rest of the way (Nunn free throw with 12 seconds left), that was enough to escape with their first road win of the season.

After Nunn split a pair of free throws, Air Force took possession of the ball down two with 11 seconds left. However, Sacramento State, played the defense, specifically Nunn who locked up Ari Force's Ethan Taylor, and the Falcons did not get a shot off as the clock expired.

Sacramento State, which had suffered four close losses, improved to 2-4, completing a stretch that saw the team play four of its first six games on the road. Now, the Hornets get to enjoy a stretch of 10 games that will see the team play at home eight times.

Air Force, which was playing Sacramento State for the first time ever, dropped to 2-5 with the loss.

The Hornets outscored the Falcons, 41-28, in the second half while leading for over 12 minutes of clock after halftime. That included holding an advantage the final 4:25 of the contest.

Sacramento State limited Air Force to 35% shooting (18-52) from the field, and 29% (8-28) from the 3-point line. The Falcons did go to the free throw line 15 more times than the Hornets, but went just 17-for-29 from the charity stripe. The Hornets buried 43% of their 3-point looks (9-21), including 6-for-11 in the second half. Sacramento State has buried at least eight 3-pointers in every game this season.

The Hornets had four players in double figures, but none scored more than 12 points. That included EJ Neal's 12 points  and five rebounds. The senior buried four 3-pointers, and scored nine of his 12 in the second half. Julian Vaughns scored 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-4 3FG) before fouling out with 8:40 remaining.

Jacob Holt had 10 points and game highs in rebounds (8) and plus/minus (+13) in 23 minutes. He has now scored in double figures in all but one game this season. Freshman Lachlan Brewer had all 10 of his points in the second half, and shot 4-for-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3FG. Brewer is now 9-for-12 from deep this season.

Freshman Chudi Dioramma had six points and seven rebounds (five offensive), and accounted for half of the Hornets' offensive rebounds. Deonte Williams had four points and five rebounds, and Nunn added four points and a game-high seven assists with just one turnover. He also had two steals and played a team-best 34 minutes off the bench. Sacramento State had just 12 turnovers in the game. Emil Skytta registered five points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.

Sacramento State is back at home this Saturday vs. Mercyhurst at 5 p.m. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
