SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State received a career-high 27 kills from
Bridgette Smith,
Reese Ampi had a career-best 24 digs, and
Caitlin Volkmann added 20 kills to lead the Hornets to a 3-2 home win over Weber State (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10) on Saturday evening at the Nest.
The match was the regular season finale, and the Hornets moved their record to 18-11 overall and 11-5 in league. Sacramento State will host next week's Big Sky Conference Tournament (Nov. 27-29), and will be the No. 3 seed. The Hornets will play No. 6 Portland State in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. There will be four quarterfinal matches in the Nest on Wednesday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The semifinals are Thursday at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the championship is Friday at 7 p.m. As long as Sacramento State remains in the single-elimination tournament, the Hornets will get the 7 p.m. time slot for each of its matches.
The Hornets finished in a two-way tie for second place with Idaho State, but lost out on the 2 seed because of tiebreakers. Seeds are as follows: No. 1 Northern Colorado, No. 2 Idaho State, No. 3 Sacramento State, No. 4 Weber State, No. 5 Eastern Washington, No. 6 Portland State, No. 7 Northern Arizona and No. 8 Montana State. Both Montana and Idaho did not qualify for the eight-team postseason event.
Tonight's match lasted two hours and 36 minutes, and was played in front of an energetic crowd that showed up impressively for Senior Night. After Hornet seniors

Ellie Tisko, Volkmann and Smith were honored pregame, the fans were treated to a match where every set was close and featured plenty of long rallies.
In the end, Sacramento State prevailed, owning Weber State in multiple statistical categories, including kills (71-52), assists (69-45) and digs (87-80). The Hornets' 87 digs were a season high, as Ampi (24), Volkmann (career-high 18), Smith (17) and setter
Kate Doorn (37 ast, 12 digs) combined for 71 digs. Smith, Volkmann and Doorn all had double-doubles.
Smith was incredible as the reigning Big Sky MVP finished with 27 kills, 17 digs and four aces. The 27 kills surpassed her previous career best of 24, set two years ago at Northern Arizona. The 17 digs were two shy of a career high, and the four aces were three more than other Hornet.
Volkmann's 20 kills were two shy of her career high, and the 18 digs established a new career best. Ampi shattered her previous career high of 19, by finishing with a match-best 24.
Karlie Spohn posted six kills, three blocks and a team-high .545 hitting percentage, and fellow mikddle
Skyler Gartin had five kills, five blocks and a .500 hitting percentage.
Doorn posted her seventh double-doubles of the season with 37 assists and 12 digs,
Ellie Tisko had 11 kills and three blocks, and
Hailey Plugge finished with 20 assists and six digs.
Ashlynn Archer, who played on the right side, finished with a pair of kills.
Sacramento State is hosting next week's Big Sky Tournament by virtue of winning last season's regular season championship. If you can't be there, all matches during the tournament will air on ESPN+
