MEN’S SOCCER SHUT OUT AT UC SAN DIEGO

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Host UC San Diego scored early and added another goal late on Saturday night at Triton Soccer Stadium in La Jolla, Calif., posting a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State in a Big West Conference match up.

The Hornets fell to 4-6-2 overall and 1-3 in conference play with Saturday's result, while the Tritons picked up three points in league standings, moving to 3-6-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big West.

UC San Diego received goals from Max Carvalho in the 16th minute on a header in the box and tacked on an insurance score on a goal by Woody Brown in the 87th minute on a shot that changed direction after a deflection on its way in for the match's only tallies.

Sophomore Donovan Sessoms shared match-high honors with five shot attempts for Sacramento State, putting a pair on frame, while senior goalkeeper Mac Learned added six saves to his league-high total in net.

The Hornets finished with 13 shots on the night to the Tritons' 16, but put only three on frame. Eleven of those 13 shots came in the second half as did seven of the team's match-high nine corner kicks.

Sacramento State returns home and plays back-to-back matches at Hornet Soccer Field for the first time all season next week, hosting Big West rivals CSUN on Wednesday (Oct. 16), before welcoming UC Santa Barbara on Saturday (Oct. 19). Both are scheduled for 3 p.m. kick-offs.
