SEASON HIGH SCORE NOT ENOUGH FOR GYMNASTICS AT SAN JOSE STATE

Hornets score 194.425 and have improved total each meet this season

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team continued to turn its score upwards as the Hornets totaled a season-high 194.425 at San Jose State on Sunday afternoon. The host Spartans won the meet with a season best of their own, scoring 196.500.

Sacramento State opened the meet on bars and produced a season high 48.750 on the event. Sarah Lutrel and Emma Morgenthaler led off with each scoring 9.700. The back half of the lineup added to that total with freshman Jillianne Lastra receiving a 9.800, Bella Lahmidi scoring 9.725 and Kara Houghton leading the team with a 9.825.

The second rotation took the Hornets to vault where the team finished with a total of 48.575. Grace Gilman and Sarah Lutrel tied for the team lead with each scoring 9.800.

Morgenthaler and Lutrel paced the team on floor in the third rotation behind a pair of 9.850s. Rylin Zimmerman ranked third on the team with a 9.775. As a team, the Hornets scored 48.800.

The team closed the competition on beam with a 48.300 team score. Freshman Athena Jones led the squad with a career high 9.850 to place second overall in the meet. Morgenthaler was second among Hornets with a 9.700.

San Jose State accounted for the event winner on all four events as well as the all-around. Lauren Macpherson totaled 39.275 to win the all-around while Morgenthaler was second with a season high 38.900.

Sacramento State will return home to host UC Davis on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
