EDGE TAKES THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE WITH GREAT BRITAIN’S U20 NATIONAL TEAM

Hornets' sophomore-to-be competes at FIBA Division B U20 Women’s European Championship in Craiova, Romania

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State soon-to-be sophomore Kaylie Edge won't have to struggle with any "What I Did Last Summer" assignments when school resumes in late August.

One of 17 players originally called into camp with the Great Britain U20 Women's National Team in mid-June, Edge was one of 12 players to make the final cut and represent the nation at the FIBA Division B U20 Women's European Championship in Craiova, Romania.

"It was an honor to represent Great Britain this summer at the European championships," Edge said. "It was an excellent opportunity for me to compete against some of the best players in Europe and I am blessed to have been coached by such an experienced coaching staff including Chantelle Handy and Renee Busch, who understand what is needed to win at the highest level. Their mentorship has helped me grow as a player and a person."

Paired in group play with two-time winner Germany, Ukraine, and Switzerland, Great Britain finished 12th in the 17-team event, helped along by Edge, who finished second on the team in scoring during the tournament while playing nearly 21 minutes per contest.

It was the first international competition for Edge, who holds dual citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom. The Richmond, Calif., native opened her tournament with a 23-point effort in a victory against Ukraine and also reached double figures against Switzerland in the team's group phase finale.

"Kaylie did a great job representing Sacramento State and Great Britain in the European Championships," Hornet head coach Aaron Kallhoff said. "We are proud of her and looking forward to her having a great sophomore season."

The experience comes after Edge helped the Hornets to a share of their first Big Sky Conference regular season title, a league tournament crown, the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 13 seed, and a No. 22 final ranking in the College Insider Mid-Major poll. Sacramento State ended the 2022-23 season with a 25-8 overall record and a 13-5 mark in Big Sky play — the most overall wins by either the men's or women's programs in school history and the program's first-ever 20-win season.

"I want to take the knowledge of the game, the mentality, and the maturity that I have developed from this experience and apply that to our upcoming season," Edge said. "Our team has a lot of potential and I can't wait to get back on court with them."
