SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State junior guard
Zee Hamoda has been selected to play for the Bahrain national team at the upcoming FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Syria.
Hamoda, who will enter his first season with the Hornets after transferring from Utah State, is a native of Riffa, Bahrain. He has previous experience playing for his home country after representing Bahrain at the 2020 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier and the 2018 FIBA U18 Asia Championship.
Bahrain will play its first qualifier games on Aug. 12 vs. Chinese Taipei, and Aug. 13 against Korea. The FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament (Aug. 12-20) offers a route to the 2024 Olympic Games for men's teams from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
In his most recent experience with the national team at the 2020 Asia Cup Qualifier, Hamoda averaged 11.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals over four games. He shot 53% (18-34) from the field and 46% (5-11) from the 3-point line.
Hamoda played in 34 games last season for a Utah State squad that went 26-9 overall, 13-5 in the Mountain West Conference, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. In fact, Hamoda has played in a combined 62 games over the last two seasons for the Aggies. He averaged 13.4 minutes per contest last season.
He joins a Sacramento State team that will feature players from seven different countries on its roster (Australia, Finland, South Sudan, Canada, Bahrain, England and the United States).
