Box Score SACRAMENTO -- After Sacramento State opened the match by winning the doubles point, UC Davis won four straight singles matches to defeat the Hornets, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon on campus.
Today's match marked the regular season finale for Sacramento State (12-6, 5-2), which will return to action at the Big Sky Conference Tournament (April 27-29) in Phoenix.
The loss was the first of the season at home for Sacramento State (9-1), which could be as high as the No. 2 seed at the Big Sky Tournament depending on this weekend's outcomes from around the league.
Today's loss was just the third of the season in which the Hornets were limited to one point or less in the final outcome.
Sacramento State received doubles wins from
Mark Keki/
Mate Voros (No. 1) and
Jiri Novak/
Adam Chodur (No. 2) to win the point. However, UC Davis won four straight singles matches at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6 in the lineup.
Keki lost his match at No. 1 by a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 score, which snapped his nine-match winning streak. It was just his second singles loss of the season (11-2).
The Hornets will know by the end of this weekend what seed they will receive at the Big Sky Tournament (No. 2 or 3). If they wind up with the 2 seed, Sacramento State will receive a first round bye at the postseason event.
