SACRAMENTO -- Sophomore
Caroline Evans was named the Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading the Hornets to a 5-0 win over Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
A Sacramento State pitcher has now earned the Big Sky weekly pitching honor five straight weeks. Prior to Evans' honor, teammate
Marissa Bertuccio earned the award four consecutive weeks.
In Saturday's win over the Tigers, Evans tossed her first career collegiate shutout. The left-hander allowed just five hits with no walks and three strikeouts over seven innings. She needed only 86 pitches to earn the shutout, and four of the five hits allowed were singles. The seven innings pitched were a career high, she faced just five batters over the minimum, and Pacific never advanced a runner past second base.
The San Leandro, Calif., native lowered her season ERA to a team-best 1.60. She has gone 24 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
Sacramento State (15-11) will enter Big Sky play later this week with a three-game home series against Northern Colorado on Friday and Saturday. The Hornets and Bears will play a doubleheader on Friday, and single game on Saturday. First pitch on both days is noon.
