SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State 13th-year head softball coach
Lori Perez announced that UTEP infielder Madi Mendoza will transfer to the Hornets, and enroll at the University as a junior in the fall.
Mendoza joins pitcher Ella Ferguson, and infielders Kira Griffin and Ava Medellin as the four signees will join the Hornets in the fall.

• A 5-foot-5 infielder from El Paso, Texas
• Spent the previous two seasons (2025, 2024) at UTEP of Conference USA
• Has played in 97 consecutive games (96 starts) over the last two years - all at shortstop
• Named Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore this past season
• Named to the Conference USA all-freshman team in 2024
• This past season, she hit .314 while leading Conference USA in assists (117) and double plays turned (16)
• Posted a .957 fielding percentage in 27 conference games
• Hit .314 with 20 runs, six doubles, two triples, a homer and 17 RBIs
• Also had five sacrifice flies (32nd in the nation) and went 6-for-7 in stolen base opportunities
• Hit safely in 10 of the final 12 games of the season, including a seven-game hitting streak
• Started all 47 of the team's games at shortstop as a true freshman in 2024
• A 2023 graduate of Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Ariz.
• Played four years of varsity softball for the Tigers
• A four-time first team 5A SanTan all-region selection
