SOFTBALL HOSTS FRESNO STATE WEDNESDAY; TRAVELS TO PACIFIC SATURDAY

• Winners of 11 of its last 14 games, Sacramento State (14-9) will play four games this week.
• That includes a home doubleheader vs. Fresno State on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a road doubleheader at Pacific on Saturday in Stockton at 1 p.m.
• The first game of Wednesday's doubleheader will be streamed on ESPN+, but the second game will not include a stream because of a scheduling conflict. Originally, the Hornets and Fresno State were to play one game on Tuesday at 3 p.m., but expected rains in the Sacramento area shifted things to Wednesday, and the two head coaches decided to add a game.
• Both games of Saturday's doubleheader at Pacific will be streamed on the WCC Network.
• Sacramento State is 8-3 at home, including six straight wins at Shea Stadium. The Hornets haven't lost at home since Feb. 12 against Seattle.
• Saturday will mark just the fifth and sixth times the Hornets have played on an opponent's home field. Sacramento State is 2-2 in true road games.
• Fresno State will bring a 9-16 record into Wednesday's doubleheader. The Bulldogs, 2-5 on the road, have lost 11 of their last 13 games.
• The Hornets are 12-40 all-time against Fresno State, and have lost eight of the last nine in the series. In the last four games vs. the Bulldogs, the Hornets have been outscored by a 24-0 margin.
• Each of the last nine games between the teams have been played in Fresno. Wednesday marks the first time the teams will play at Shea Stadium since a 3-0 Hornet win on March 16, 2013.
• Sacramento State is 36-43 all-time against Pacific, but the Hornets have been victorious in six of the last nine meetings.
• Right-hander Marissa Bertuccio has won four straight Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Week awards, and owns the conference record for 14 pitcher of the week accolades during her career. The reigning Big Sky Pitcher of the Year has won each of her last eight decisions.
• Bertuccio leads the Big Sky in virtually every statistical category, and is 8-3 with a 1.76 ERA to go along with a 5.1-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio. She has allowed one earned run or less in each of her last five appearances.
• Utility players Lexie Webb and Milan Machado-Buckley have both been lost for the season due to injury. Both are power hitters and would have been fixturs in the Hornets' lineup. In fact, Webb, who played at Fresno State from 2020-21, was a third team all-Pacific Region selection after hitting 16 home runs for the Hornets a year ago.
• Center fielder Jada Walker was named Big Sky Player of the Week on Monday after reaching base safely in all five plate appearances in the Hornets' doubleheader sweep of Maine.
• True freshman catcher Katie Marsh continues to impress with a team-high .405 batting average. She has started 14 straight games, after starting once in the first nine games of the season.
• Both Carley Morfey and Gwen Ludwig had their career-high nine-game hitting streaks halted last week vs. Maine. Three Hornets have already had hitting streaks of at least eight games long, as Lewa Day had an eight-gamer earlier this year.
• Of the Hornets' 14 wins, seven have been of the comeback variety. Of those seven comeback wins, Sacramento State trailed in the fifth inning or later in five of them.
• Alexis Parish has struck out just twice in 61 at-bats, and her average of one strikeout every 30.5 at-bats is the 22nd best mark in the nation.
• Gwen Ludwig is batting .344 (tied for second on the team) and has hit safely in 12 of the last 14 games. During that 14-game stretch, Ludwig is batting .391 (18-for-46).
• When Caroline Evans appears in the circle, the Hornets have a tendency to make errors. Evans has given up 29 runs in 32.1 innings, but only nine of those runs have been earned.
• One year after hitting .396 with runners in scoring position, Carley Morfey is hitting .417 with RISP.
• Lewa Day (39) is just five homers shy of tying the program record for most career homers (44).
• After this week's slate of games, the Hornets will jump into Big Sky Conference play next week.
