MEN’S TENNIS OPENS BIG SKY PLAY WITH 5-2 ROAD WIN AT PORTLAND STATE

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State won the doubles point and received straight set singles wins from Mark Keki, Mate Voros, Jan Silva and Ori Maior on the way to a 5-2 win at Portland State.

The match marked the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams. The Hornets, who have won six of their last seven matches, improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league. Portland State dropped to 4-4 and 0-1. The Vikings had been 4-0 at home prior to today's loss.

The Hornets started things by winning the doubles point as the No. 1 duo of Keki/Voros won, 6-3, and Hayden Rand/Maior won at No. 3 by a 6-2 score.

In singles, Keki won at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4), Voros at No. 2 (7-6, 6-2), Silva at No. 4 (7-6, 6-2) and Maior at No. 5 (6-4, 7-6). The win for Silva was his fourth straight, and Keki's victory his third straight.

"It was great to open conference with a win, and it was our first match indoors," Sacramento State head coach Kevin Kurtz said. "The guys competed well and executed the game plan. We are very excited to see how the rest of this season unfolds."

Sacramento State returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 25) for a conference matchup at Montana at 1 p.m. PT.
