FRESNO, Calif. — Sacramento State freshman Summah Hanson continued the torrid start to her collegiate career with her fifth double-double of the year while senior Solape Amusan sank a trio of three-pointers en route to her third double-digit performance in her last four games, but host Fresno State used a 16-2 run in the third quarter to break open a two-point contest and earn a 68-47 win on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center.
Hanson finished with five makes from the field, including a three-pointer, and sank all four of her attempts from the line to end the day with a team-high 15 points to go with a career-high 16 rebounds. It was her sixth double-digit scoring performance of the year — and her third straight — while the 16 boards were the most by a Hornet since Isnelle Natabou finished with 18 against Weber State on Jan. 21 of last season.
Over her last three contests, Hanson is averaging 16.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while shooting .486 (18-for-37) from the field overall.
Amusan added 11 points to go with a pair of rebounds and two steals to finish as the only other Hornet in double figures. A solid offensive option for Sacramento State as of late, Amusan is averaging 10.8 ppg over her last four contests, shooting 40 percent (14-for-35) from the field and draining half her attempts (13-for-26) from beyond the arc in that stretch.
After trailing by as many as eight in the first half, the Hornets (1-7) clawed their way right back into the contest thanks to a 10-2 run that tied the game and only trailed by three at the break. Sacramento State used a pair of Hanson free throws to make it a one-point game to start the third and were down just two after a Hanson second-chance basket that made it 29-27 just 90 seconds in.
That's when the host side pulled away as the Bulldogs (7-5) scored the next 11 points and held the Hornets to without a field goal for nearly six minutes until Amusan drained a triple at the 2:34 mark to stop the bleeding. Sacramento State was unable to get closer than 15 points the rest of the way as Fresno State won the second half 42-24.
The Hornets play host to Cal Poly on Thursday (Dec. 21) at 11 a.m. in their final non-conference game before the holiday, opening a doubleheader with the men's team, which takes on Bethesda at 2 p.m. later that day. Sacramento State then opens Big Sky Conference play after Christmas against Idaho (Dec. 28) and Eastern Washington (Dec. 30).
