SLATER, BROUSSARD, BAILEY NAMED FCS ALL-AMERICANS BY PHIL STEELE

Hornets also place 12 on Phil Steele all-Big Sky teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jackson Slater, Cameron Broussard and Armon Bailey each earned FCS All-America honors from Phil Steele, it was announced today. The trio were part of 12 Hornets who were placed on the organization's all-Big Sky Conference teams.

Slater was named to the All-America second team and was a first team all-league selection. The junior started all 13 games at left guard and was part of an offensive line which surrendered only 16 sacks during the season. Slater also garnered third team All-America accolades from FCS Football Central earlier in the week. He became just the second Hornet to be named first team all-Big Sky twice in their career. Slater was a third team All-American by the Associated Press in 2022.

Broussard was named third team All-America by Phil Steele. He started all 11 regular season games at free safety and ranked second on the team with 73 total tackles. His season included recording double-digit tackles against Northern Colorado and Stanford, having five tackles in nine games and at least three in all of his 11 games. Broussard also had a pair of interceptions during the season and was credited with five pass breakups.

Bailey landed on the Phil Steele All-America third team and was also a first team all-conference pick. He led Sacramento State with 97 total tackles this season and had a team-best eight tackles-for-loss. Bailey made at least four tackles in every game he played in and had eight games with at least eight stops. He finished his Hornet career ranked 14th in school history with 229 total tackles.

Tight end Marshel Martin and defensive tackle Jett Stanley were named to the Phil Steele all-Big Sky second team. Martin leaves Sacramento State tied for second with 27 career receiving yards, fourth with 192 career receptions and fifth with 2,373 career receiving yards. Stanley led all defensive linemen on the team with 40 tackles and tied for the overall team lead with 4.5 sacks. He was named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week after tallying three sacks in the win at Stanford.

Wide receivers Jared Gipson and Carlos Hill and offensive linemen Ivan Garza and Nathan Mejia were named to the Phil Steele all-Big Sky third team. Gipson ranked second on the team with 38 receptions for 657 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 17.3 yards per reception which was the best in the Big Sky. Hill led the team with 51 receptions for 692 yards and had five receiving touchdowns. He caught at least one pass in all 13 games and had three or more receptions in 10 games. Garza and Mejia started all 13 games on the offensive line. Garza split his time between left and right tackle while Mejia anchored the line at center.

Running back Marcus Fulcher, kicker Zach Schreiner and kick returner Elijah Tau-Tolliver earned spots on the Phil Steele all-Big Sky fourth team. Fulcher paced the team with 590 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in just nine complete games. He departs Sacramento State ranked 10th in school history with 19 rushing touchdowns and is 17th with 1,449 career rushing yards and 285 career attempts. Schreiner scored a team-high 91 points as he made 14-of-19 field goals and was a perfect 49-of-49 on extra points. His field goal total is tied for the third most in school single-season history. Schreiner also became the second player in school history to not miss a PAT in a season with at least 40 attempts. Tau-Tolliver averaged 23.0 yards per kick return on 18 attempts. His total was aided by a pair of 44-yard returns during the season.
