Box Score SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State won the doubles point, and received singles wins from
Mark Keki,
Mate Voros and
Rudolfs Aksenoks, as the Hornets defeated Pacific, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon on campus.
The Hornets (5-2) won their fourth straight, and are now 4-0 on the current five-match homestand. In fact, Sacramento State has won four matches over the last six days. In addition, the victory snapped a seven-match losing streak to Pacific. The last win over the Tigers came on the road in 2008 by a 4-3 score.
Pacific, which opened its season yesterday with a 6-1 home win over UC San Diego, dropped to 1-1.
For the sixth time in seven matches, the Hornets won the doubles point. This time, it was Keki/Voros winning at No. 1 (6-3), and
Ori Maior/
Hayden Rand at No. 3 (6-4). Keki/Voros improved to a perfect 4-0 in doubles play after the duo went 20-1 last spring.
After Pacific tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 5 singles, the Hornets won three straight to claim the four points and victory. Keki made it 2-1 with his win at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2), and Voros increased the lead to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-4 win over nationally ranked Ran Amar. Amar is currently ranked 120th in the nation.
The win was clinched by Aksenoks at No. 6 where he won his match over Manroop Saini, 6-4, 6-3.
"The guys have been working hard, and they executed today's game plan perfectly," Sacramento State head coach
Kevin Kurtz said. "They played excellent doubles again, and Mate played amazing tennis. Throughout the week, we were able to rest guys, and everyone on the roster gained valuable experience."
Sacramento State will get a little rest before its next match, a home contest vs. Saint Mary's on Saturday at 1 p.m.
