SAN JOSE, Calif. — Amber Koeth finished in first place on floor and
Sarah Lutrel tied for first on beam and recorded her second all-around score of 39-plus this weekend to guide the Sacramento State gymnastics team to a score of 194.750 on Sunday at San Jose State. The host Spartans finished first at 195.150 while Wisconsin-La Crosse was third at 192.400.
The Hornet effort followed a season best 195.100 on Friday night against Alaska Anchorage. Along with today's total, Sacramento State achieved its highest combined score in consecutive meets since receiving 195.175 on March 9 and a 195.275 on March 16 of 2018.
Sacramento State opened the meet with a season high on bars of 48.675. The team counted five scores ranging from 9.675 to 9.800. Koeth recorded a season best 9.800 to tie for fifth place. Lutrel also set a career best and tied for seventh at 9.775 while
Torri Tavenner was 10th with a season-high tying 9.725.
The Hornets surged to the top of the team standings after the second rotation where the team totaled 49.225 on beam. That score ranks as the third best in school history in the event and is the highest by Sacramento State since 2010. Lutrel paced the team with a 9.925 which tied San Jose State's Emma Milne for the top spot and equaled the MPSF record. Her score is also tied for the second best in school history.
Grace Gilman also set her career best with a 9.900 to tie for third place in the meet. Lutrel and Gilman became the fourth Hornet duo to score at least 9.9 in the same meet. Sacramento State also counted a 9.850 from
Peyton Gillen and 9.775s from
Amber Koeth and
Emma Morgenthaler.
Sacramento State followed with a 48.650 on floor. Koeth finished first in the event for the second time in three days with a 9.850.
Emma Morgenthaler was just a fraction of a point behind Koeth as she received a 9.825 to tie for second. Lutrel scored 9.675 to place eighth and was joined in the top 10 by
Simone Dumas-Guzman and
Kara Houghton who tied for ninth at 9.650.
The Hornets ended the meet with a 48.200 on vault.
Emma Morgenthaler led the team with a 9.750 to tie for third place. Lutrel was seventh with a 9.700 and Gilman placed eighth at 9.650.
Lutrel finished second in the all-around with a four-event total of 39.075. She finished just a half-tenth behind SJSU's Jaudai Lopes who scored 39.125.
Sacramento State will continue its busy stretch with a dual meet at Air Force on Friday, Feb. 3. The meet will be the third in eight days for the Hornets.
