SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State gymnasts swept the podium in all four events en route to a season high 195.100 in a victory over Alaska Anchorage (187.225) on Friday night at The Nest.
The score was nearly three full points better than team's best effort through the first two meets of the season and was the Hornets' highest mark since totaling 195.400 against UC Davis on March 5, 2022.
Freshman
Sarah Lutrel set or tied her season best in all four events as well as the all-around. Lutrel opened with a 9.800 on floor to tie for first place, scored 9.725 to tie for second on bars, won beam with a 9.850 and ended the meet in third on floor with a 9.775. Her all-around total of 39.150 tied her with teammate
Emma Morgenthaler for first place.
Sacramento State built a comfortable lead after the first rotation and never looked back. The Hornets scored 48.750 on vault and led by over 2.5 points. The team counted five vaults of 9.675 or better and finished with the top five scores in the event. Lutrel was tied with Morgenthaler for the top spot with
Sarah Fitzgerald finishing third with a 9.750.
The team but its previous struggles on bars this season in the rearview with a 48.650 during the second rotation.
Amber Koeth anchored the lineup with a 9.750 to claim her second career title — and first this season – on the event. Four Sacramento State gymnasts tied for second place with
Torri Tavenner,
Kara Houghton, Lutrel and
Bella Lahmidi each scoring 9.725.
The Hornets scored 49.000 on beam for its highest score on any event this season.
Grace Gilman led off with a 9.725 which tied her for fifth place. Morgenthaler set a career best with a 9.825 to finish in second. Lutrel followed with a career best 9.850 to win the event and was followed by a 9.800 from
Peyton Gillen and Koeth who tied for third place.
Needing a big team score to crack 195 points, the team responded with a season-best 48.700. The back half of the lineup did the heavy lifting with Lutrel scoring 9.775, Morgenthaler adding a 9.825 and Koeth scoring 9.850 to win her first individual title on floor.
Sacramento State will have its quickest turnaround since 2013 as the team will travel to San Jose State for a tri-meet on Sunday at 2 p.m.
