Box Score SACRAMENTO --
Jan Silva,
Adam Chodur,
Patrick Wong,
Hayden Rand and
Tyler Waddock each won their singles matches in straight sets to lead the Hornets to a 6-1 victory over William Jessup on Tuesday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts.
The Hornets, who were playing their home opener, improved to 2-2 with the win. Today was the beginning of a stretch that will see the team play four home matches over a six-day span. William Jessup, an NAIA program from Rocklin, was playing its first match of the season.
Sacramento State competed in today's match without four players usually in the singles lineup. That included the Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. Still, the Hornets were able to pick up their second win of the season with relative ease.
After Wong/Rand (6-0 at No. 2) and Waddock/
Michael Gravel (6-1 at No. 3) made quick work of their matches to earn the doubles point, the Hornets won straight set singles matches at Nos. 1-5.
Silva, playing for the first time this season, won his match at No. 1 by a 6-2, 7-5 score. Chodur won at No. 2, Wong at No. 3, Rand at No. 4, and Waddock at No. 5. Waddock, a true freshman from Calgary, won his first intercollegiate match.
The Hornets are back at it tomorrow on campus when they host Holy Names at 1 p.m.
