Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RENO, Nev. -- Sacramento State combined for 17 hits, but it was not enough as the Hornets lost a pair of games at Nevada on Wednesday afternoon at Hixson Park. The Hornets lost the first game, 6-4, and fell in the second game by an 8-5 score.

Playing their only games of the week, the Hornet offense hit .293 during the doubleheader with 17 hits and nine runs, including three homers, but Nevada had 14 runs on 17 hits.

Sacramento State got a combined four hits from Nikki Barboza, three from Lexie Webb, and two each from Milan Machado-Buckley, Amber Rodriguez and Carley Morfey. Home runs came from Webb, Morfey and Machado-Buckley. For Webb, it marked her team-high 14th home run of the season, four shy of the single-season program record.

The losses dropped the Hornets to 20-17. The Wolf Pack improved to 11-26 with the victories.

In the opener, Sacramento State held a 2-0 lead through three innings, but Nevada scored four times in the fourth, and another pair in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. The Hornets threatened in the seventh inning, scoring two times and getting the potential tying run to the plate with two outs, but Nevada starter Blake Craft got a groundout to end the game.

Craft went all seven innings, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) with four walks and six strikeouts. The Hornets stranded seven runners on base. Barboza had a multiple-hit game for the Hornets, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk. Webb's solo homer in the third gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

In the nightcap, the Wolf Pack never trailed, scoring four times in the third inning. Sacramento State got three of those runs back on a Machado-Buckley three-run homer in the fourth, but the Wolf Pack put up another four spot in the sixth to take an 8-3 lead. Morfey's two-run homer in the seventh provided the Hornets' final tally in the 8-5 loss. Tyra Clary got the win in relief, throwing the final 3.2 innings.

Webb, Morfey, Rodriguez, Barboza and Machado-Buckley all had two hits. Sacramento State outhit Nevada, 12-8, but stranded eight runners on base.

The Hornets, who are on their bye week from Big Sky Conference play, do not play again until a three-game series at Northern Colorado on April 15-16.
