Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah — Sophomore right-hander Noah Takacs struck out seven over five innings to pick up the win, while Trevor Doyle and Dawsen Bacho finished with three hits on the day in support, helping Sacramento State to its fourth consecutive series win, downing host Dixie State by a 7-2 score on Saturday at Bruce Hurst Field.
The Hornets won their fourth straight game overall, improving to 20-18 overall and 11-9 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Trailblazers, who won the series in Sacramento earlier this year by taking two out of three, fell to 15-22 and 9-11 in league.
Takacs (1-2) allowed a single run on just two hits while walking a pair, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth en route to his first win of the year.
Doyle and Bacho added a pair of runs scored and an RBI to their three-hit days, while sophomore Jorge Bojorquez slugged a grand slam to highlight a decisive five-run third inning that put Sacramento State up big.
Doyle got the scoring started with one out in the first, crushing his first home run of the year over the wall in right center for the 1-0 lead.
The Hornets then broke the game wide open in the third as a walk to Dylan McPhillips and back-to-back singles by Cesar Valero and Doyle set the stage for Bojorquez, who sent the first pitch he saw over the wall in left for his fifth home run of the year and a 5-0 advantage.
A sac fly by Jeffery Heard made it 6-0 later in the inning and Sacramento State cruised from there.
Dixie State broke up the shutout with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Bacho put the game away with his fourth home run of the year, sending a solo shot over the wall in left to cap the scoring.
Trey Goodrich struck out two and scattered two hits in his inning of relief before giving way to Myles Meyer, who struck out four and surrenders a single hit over the final three innings to pick up his first save of the year.
Sacramento State goes for the sweep on Sunday (April 23) as freshman Colin Hunter is scheduled to take the mound for the Hornets. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
