LATE RUN LIFTS WOMEN'S BASKETBALLL TO 71-62 ROAD WIN AT SOUTHERN UTAH

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Trailing by 10 points late in the second half, Sacramento State made a furious comeback to win another road game at Southern Utah, 71-62, on Saturday afternoon at America First Event Center.

The Hornets used a 25-6 run over the final seven minutes to win for the 13th time this season. During the run, Lianna Tillman was brilliant, scoring the first 10, and finishing with 15 of Sacramento State's 25 points during the game-winning spurt. Tillman would finish with a game-high 25 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter. That total also lifted her to 1,013 career points. Sacramento State outscored Southern Utah, 30-12, in the final stanza.

Already fifth in the nation in biggest win turnaround since last season, Sacramento State now has the biggest turnaround in program history. Sacramento State was 3-22 overall and 2-18 in the Big Sky Conference last season, and finished in last place. Head coach Mark Campbell and his staff were hired in the offseason, and the Hornets have made a remarkable resurgence as the team is now 13-10 overall and 9-5 in the Big Sky.

Sacramento State has won five straight, and nine of the last 10 games. Only a three-point road loss at Weber State on Jan. 29 has prevented the Hornets from cranking off a 10-game winning streak. The Hornets have also won four of their last five Big Sky road games, which includes a second half comeback in Thursday night's 65-55 win at Northern Colorado.

Making today's win even sweeter is that it came against a Southern Utah team that currently sits in third place in the Big Sky. The Thunderbirds, who beat the Hornets by 10 earlier this year at The Nest, dropped to 14-9 overall and 10-4 in league play.

Sacramento State shot 50% (25-50) from the field, 35% (6-17) from the arc and 88% (15-17) from the free throw line. In the fourth quarter alone, the Hornets shot 75% (9-12) from the field, 60% (3-5) from distance and 90% (9-10) from the charity stripe. That includes 7-for-8 from the line during the final 30 seconds to ice the victory.

Tillman continued her monster season with 25 points, six assists and three rebounds. She shot 9-for-20 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the line. Isnelle Natabou was a +17 in plus/minus while finishing with yet another double-double (15 points, 14 rebounds) to go with a pair of blocked shots. She was 7-for-11 from the field, and had four offensive boards.

Menke also finished with a double-double, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jazzy Carrasco had eight points, and Jordan Olivares six points and four rebounds.

With just six games left in the regular season (four at home), Sacramento State will host Weber State on Thursday, and Idaho State on Saturday of next week. The Hornets are currently in fourth place in the conference standings, and the Big Sky Tournament will take place in Boise on March 7-11.
