GYMNASTICS POSTS ANOTHER SEASON HIGH WITH 195.000 AGAINST UC DAVIS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team scored at least 48.600 in all four events and finished with a season-high 195.000 on Friday night at The Nest. The Hornets finished second in the meet, falling to UC Davis which totaled 195.825.

Sacramento State opened the meet on vault with a 48.600 to set its season best. The team was led by freshman Grace Gilman who scored 9.800 to place fourth. Mary Won added a personal best 9.750 to finish in sixth place. The Aggies held a narrow lead after the rotation with a total of 48.875 on bars.

The Hornets drew closer in the second rotation after crushing its season best on bars. The team scored 49.025 to easily surpass its season high of 48.425 which came at San Jose State on Jan. 30. Four members of the lineup recorded career bests, led by Amber Koeth;s 9.875 which won the event. Freshmen Emma Morgenthaler and Torri Tavenner each scored 9.850s to tie for second and Destiny Watley was sixth with a 9.800.

Sacramento State counted five scores ranking between 9.700 and 9.800 to total 48.700 on beam in the third rotation. Watley, who was making her collegiate debut on beam, led the team with a 9.800 to place fifth. Peyton Gillen also matched her career high with a 9.775 to finish one spot behind Watley.

A week after scoring 49.225 on floor, the Hornets scored 48.675. Morgenthaler paced the team from her anchor position with a 9.825 which landed her fourth. Koeth was second with a 9.750. Sarah Fitzgerald (9.700) and Torri Tavenner (9.600) each scored career highs.

Morgenthaler earned her first collegiate win in the all-around with a four-event total of 39.025. The freshman scored 9.650 on vault, 9.850 on bars, 9.700 on beam and 9.825 on floor. Watley was second at 38.925 in her first all-around.

Sacramento State will continue its three meet homestand next Friday with a four-team meet which will include Alaska Anchorage, San Jose State and Texas Woman's.
