Box Score GREELEY, Colo. — The Sacramento State women's basketball team overcame a 1-point halftime deficit to win for the eighth time in its last nine games with a 65-55 win at Northern Colorado on Thursday.
The Hornets (12-10 overall, 8-5 Big Sky Conference) shot 50.0 percent in the second half, making 15-of-30 attempts to outscore the Bears (9-12, 5-8) 39-28 in the second half. Sacramento State shot 44.3 percent for the game, including making 6-of-10 three-pointers for a season-high percentage.
Lianna Tillman led a quartet of Hornets in double-digits with 21 points and also had a game-high seven assists. Katie Peneueta made all four of her three-point attempts and a pair of free throws for 14 points and Summer Menke added 12. Isnelle Natabou led all players with 18 rebounds and completed her 14th double-double of the season with two free throws in the final minute to give her 10 points.
After falling behind 4-0 to start the game, the Hornets went on an 18-2 run to build a 12-point lead with just over three minutes left in the first quarter. However, UNC followed with a 16-2 run of its own and eventually took a 24-22 lead with a three-pointer from Micayla Isenbart with 3:03 left in the half. That lead rose to five before Tillman and Natabou each scored in the final 53 seconds to cut the Northern Colorado advantage to 27-26 at the break.
The Bears held on to the lead for the majority of the third quarter but could not push it past five points. Peneueta knotted the game, 35-35, with her second triple and then gave the team the lead with another three 48 seconds later. A flurry of action late in the third period was capped off by a layup from Natabou just before the buzzer to allow the Hornets to own a 44-39 lead.
Northern Colorado scored the first three points of the fourth quarter before Jordan Olivares knocked down a three-pointer and Menke had a putback layup to extend the Hornet lead to 49-42 with 8:25 left. UNC was never able to draw closer than four for the remainder of the game and the Hornets pushed its advantage to 10 after a steal and breakway from Menke with 1:45 showing.
The Bears were led by 19 points from Hannah Simental and received 12 from Kurstyn Harden. As a team, UNC shot 21-of-49 (.429) from the field, 5-of-17 from three (.294) and 8-of-10 (.800) from the line.
Sacramento State forced Northern Colorado into 18 turnovers which turned into 19 points. The Hornets also held a 38-30 advantage in points in the paint.
Sacramento State will next play at Southern Utah on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. PT.
