SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Three young components of Sacramento State's record-setting offense were recognized by HERO Sports on Thursday. Running back
Cameron Skattebo and offensive lineman
Jackson Slater were named to the Sophomore All-America team while center
Nathan Mejia was voted to the Freshman All-America team.
Skattebo, who was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year and was a first team all-league selection, has rushed for 1,272 yards while averaging 7.1 yards per carry this season. He has also added 295 receiving yards and combined for nine total touchdowns (5 rushing, 3 receiving, 1 kick return).
Slater was a first team all-Big Sky selection and helped a Hornet attack which set the school record for rushing yards in a season. The Bellevue, Wash., native started the first 11 games at left guard before moving to left tackle for the NCAA FCS Playoff game against Richmond. Slater has now started 21 consecutive games up front dating back to his true freshman season a year ago.
Mejia has started all 12 games at center during his redshirt freshman season. Prior to this year, Mejia had appeared in just one game at Sacramento State.
Sacramento State will continue its season on Friday night against Incarnate Word in the quarterfinals of the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
