MEN'S HOOPS BACK ON THE ROAD SATURDAY AT FRESNO STATE

GAME PREVIEW

• Fresh off a pair of thrilling two-point home wins last week, Sacramento State (5-5) is back on the road to face Fresno State (3-6) on Saturday. Tip-off at Save Mart Center is 4 p.m.
• Senior Zach Chappell hit game winners in the final seconds of both wins last week over Denver (87-85 in OT) and Long Beach State (76-74). He also hit a bucket with five seconds left to force OT against Denver. For his efforts, which included a 25.0 ppg average, he was named the College Insider National Player of the Week, and Big Sky Player of the Week.
• Fresno State will mark just the second Hornet opponent all season that has a record below .500. Only once in the first 10 games has Sacramento State played a team below the .500 mark (UC San Diego was 0-1 when the Hornets faced them on Nov. 12).
• Sacramento State will play its eighth game away from home, which includes a 2-2 mark on an opponent's home floor. The Hornets have played just three games at home.
• In a series that dates back to 1949, Sacramento State is 9-40 all-time against Fresno State.
• The Hornets have lost 23 straight games to Fresno State dating back to the 1966-67 season. The last Sacramento State win was at home, an 83-76 win in the Nest in 1966.
• The last Sacramento State win in Fresno came in 1954 - a 60-54 outcome.
• The two teams have not played since a 77-65 Bulldog win in Fresno on Nov. 14, 2008. In that game, current Sacramento State assistant coach Loren Leath scored a game-high 21 points for the Hornets on 8-for-16 FG, and 5-7 3FG. Paul George had 14 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs.
• Jerome Jenkins, who was the Hornet head coach for eight years (2000-08), is currently on Fresno State's staff as the special assistant to head coach Justin Hutson. Jenkins guided the Hornets to the program's first four Big Sky Tourney appearances from 2002-06.
• The Hornets have scored over 75 points in three of the last four games after scoring less than 75 in each of their first six games of the season.
• Fresno State is 2-1 at home, including victories over Fresno Pacific and CSUN. The Bulldogs' last game was a 76-72 road loss at Pacific on Saturday. Both the Hornets and Bulldogs will have gone six straight days without a game prior to Saturday's tip.
• Fresno State is averaging just 63.1 ppg (328th in the nation) and shoots the 3-ball at a 26% clip (348th in the nation). However, the Bulldogs defend, holding the opposition to just 63.6 points (70th in the nation in scoring defense) and 41% shooting from the field.
• The Bulldogs went 23-12 a year ago, and won The Basketball Classic postseason tourney.
