GILMAN, KOETH WIN EVENT TITLES, GYMNASTICS SCORES SEASON BEST

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team continued to improve on its season best with a 192.325 on Sunday at San Jose State. The host Spartans won the meet with a 195.700.

The Hornets opened the meet on bars with a team total of 48.425. Shaye Mathias finished in fourth place with a 9.750 to set her career high on the event. Amber Koeth ranked second on the team and tied for sixth in the meet with a 9.700. Destiny Watley and Torri Tavenner each set career marks with 9.675s to tie for eighth.

The team then turned to vault where they totaled 48.650 which was a season best. Grace Gilman tied for first place with a career high 9.825. Torri Tavenner also set a personal high with 9.750 to tie for sixth and Mary Won made her debut in the lineup with a 9.725 to place ninth.

Emma Morgenthaler was the team's highest finisher on floor with a career high 9.750 to place fourth. Amber Koeth raised her career best by two-tenths with a 9.725 to place fifth. Overall, the team scored 47.775 to set its high score on floor this year.

Koeth tied for first on beam for her second individual title on the event in as many meets. The senior scored 9.850 and was matched by San Jose State's Emma Milne. Gilman ranked second on the team with a 9.750 to set her career best and tie her for sixth place in the meet.

San Jose State's Jada Mazury won the all-around with a four-event total of 39.225. Morgenthaler was fourth with a 37.975 and Sarah Fitzgerald scored 37.375 to place fifth.

The Hornets will have their first home meet in nearly two years when they welcome Air Force on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.
