WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FOUR WITH 69-62 VICTORY OVER BEARS

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's basketball won its fourth consecutive game with a 69-62 victory over Northern Colorado on Monday night at The Nest. The Hornets were led by a career-high 18 points from Katie Peneueta, a double-double from Isnelle Natabou and a 20-point performance from Lianna Tillman to complete the sweep of three home games in a five game span.

Sacramento State is now 8-9 overall and 4-4 in the Big Sky Conference. The team's four-game winning streak over conference opponents is the longest since winning five in a row during the 2014-15 season. Northern Colorado dropped to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in league games.

The Hornets never trailed for the final 33:18 of the game despite a strong test from the Bears in the fourth quarter. Sacramento State took a 10-point lead (46-36) into the fourth quarter and led by eight (53-43) with five minutes to play. The game then turned into a scoring duel between Tillman and UNC's Kurstyn Harden. Tillman scored Sacramento State's next 10 points with a pair of floaters near the paint and a couple of stepback threes. Harden was unstoppable in the final period as she scored 22 of the team's 28 points and also had seven rebounds. She finished the game with a career high 30 after making 11-of-16 field goals and 8-of-10 free throws. She completed the double-double with 11 rebounds.

The Bears got within five, 63-58, after Alexis Chapman came up with a steal and fed Jayce Gorzeman for a fast break layup with 34 seconds left on the clock. Jazzy Carrasco was fouled after receiving the in-bounds pass and calmly sank both free throws to push it back to a three-possession game. Carrasco went on to repeat the sequence two more times to finish 6-of-6 from the stripe and secure the win.

Peneueta was key in the team's first half success as she scored 11 of her 18 in the opening periods. She finished the game 6-of-8 from the field, including 5-of-6 from three and also had three rebounds and three assists. The freshman's previous highs were 15 points and five made three at Montana State on Dec. 4.

Tillman's 20-point effort was her seventh game with at least 20 and fourth in the last five outings. She was 8-of-14 from the field, 4-of-6 from long range and had eight assists.

Natabou added her ninth double-double (fourth straight) of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The freshman made 4-of-6 shots to increase her Big Sky leading field goal percentage to 60.8 percent in all games and 66.7 in conference play.

Having played five of its last six games at home, Sacramento State will start a stretch of three consecutive road games and five of six away from home at Idaho State on Thursday, Jan. 27. The game will get underway at 6 p.m PT and can be seen on ESPN+.
