Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Isnelle Natabou had a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season to help guide the Sacramento State women's basketball team to a 59-49 victory over Eastern Washington on Thursday night at The Nest.
The win was the second in a row for the Hornets and improved the team to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the Big Sky Conference. EWU fell to 4-12 overall and 2-5 in league games.
Sacramento State outscored the Eagles in each of the first three quarters and eventually led by 19 late in the third quarter. Eastern was able to pull closer in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hornets, 16-9, but never got within nine points in the period.
The two teams went back-and-forth in the first quarter with EWU staking a 14-12 lead following a layup from Andie Zylak with 3:31 remaining. However, the Hornets closed the quarter with a bucket from Natabou and two free throws from Summer Menke to seize control.
The Eagles last tied the game at 21-21 just over halfway through the second quarter only to see Sacramento State close the half on the 13-5 run. The Hornets relied on freshman Katie Peneuta who made a pair of three-pointers during the run as part of her nine first half points.
Sacramento State was able to put the game out of reach in the third quarter outscoring EWU, 16-7. Menke opened the period with five straight to push the advantage to 13. After the teams exchanged a pair of buckets, the Hornets went on an 8-0 run behind two field goals from Natabou and Tillman.
Natabou entered the game as the Big Sky leader in rebounds and field goal percentage and was able to raise her mark in both categories. The freshman center made 7-of-9 field goal attempts and had two offensive rebounds among her 13 total boards in the game. She also added a blocked shot and a steal.
Menke ranked second on the team with 14 points and had five rebounds as well as a steal. The final double-figure scorer was Lianna Tillman who provided 10 points and a game-high seven assists.
Sacramento State shot 40.0 percent as a team and had 15 assists on the 22 made baskets. The Hornets limited themselves to a season-low eight turnovers marking only the second time this season the team has been in single digits.
Eastern Washington finished the game 19-of-65 (29.2 percent) as a team. The Eagles were led by 15 points from Jacinta Buckley and 13 from Jaleesa Lawrence. Sacramento State limited EWU's Jaydia Martin, who entered the contest averaging 16 points per game, to just five points on 2-of-15 shooting.
