VOLLEYBALL REMAINS PERFECT AT HOME WITH SWEEP OF EASTERN WASHINGTON

Box Score

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State had five players with at least six kills, and limited Eastern Washington to a .110 hitting percentage on the way to a three-set sweep of the Eagles on Saturday evening at the Nest. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17, 25-13.

The Hornets, who were playing their first home match since Valentine's Day, remained perfect at home (5-0). In fact, Sacramento State has dropped just two sets during those five matches. The team is now 6-5 overall, and 6-5 in the Big Sky Conference. All five of the Hornets losses have come on the road to three of the top four teams in the Big Sky standings.

Eastern Washington dropped to 5-7 overall and 4-7 in league.

The Eagles led, 22-20, in the first set, but Sacramento State closed on a 5-1 run, which included a pair of aces from Macey Hayden the set-clinching kill from Bridgette Smith. From that point forward, it was all Hornets as they were never really threatened in the second or third sets.

Sacramento State hit .269 and had big advantages of the Eagles in kills (43-28) and digs (47-41). The Eagles had just 28 kills with 17 errors in 100 swings.

The freshmen combination of Bridgette Smith (9 kills, 4 digs) and Caitlin Volkmann (9 kills) both led the team in terminations, while senior Macey Hayden had eight kills, six digs and three of the Hornets' five aces. In addition, Kalani Hayes had six kills, five blocks and a .308 hitting percentage, and junior Sarah Falk posted six kills and a massive .714 hitting percentage (6-1-7).

Defensively, Caty Cordano shined again, leading all players with 19 digs. Setters Ashtin Olin and McKenna Smith, once again leading a 6-2 offensive, combined for 34 assists and 15 digs. Olin had 23 of those assists and nine digs. Karlee Soderberg added four kills and four blocks from the right side.

The Hornets and Eagles will play again tomorrow inside the Nest at 1 p.m.
