Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For the second time in the last three days, Sacramento State shut out the visiting Eastern Washington Eagles as the two teams battled to a scoreless draw Sunday at Hornet Field.
Sunday's match was the second of two weekend contests between the Hornets (1-0-4, 0-0-2) and the Eagles (3-2-2, 0-2-2). Two of last year's top teams and two of this year's preseason favorites, Sacramento State and Eastern settled for two points apiece in this weekend's action.
Eastern Washington came into this two-game set with the Hornets averaging better than two goals per game and had scored 11 goals in its three matches leading up to its series with Sacramento State.
The Hornets, one of the best defensive teams in the country last season and again this year, recorded back-to-back blank sheets against the high-scoring Eagles.

Despite the advantage, the Hornets were unable to find the back of the net despite placing most of those shots on frame.

Aaliyah Fesili recorded eight saves while the Eagles' Kelsee Winston collected six of her own. Fesili had plenty of help from her backline, with numerous players, especially Shylah Soon, Aubrey Goodwill, Christina Lazar, and Alyssa Baena turning in spectacular defensive efforts on Sunday.
Sunday's match was also a physical one, with 29 total fouls called between the two teams. There were also six yellow cards show, four of them to the Hornets.
The double-overtime match was Sacramento State's fifth in as many matches this season. The Hornets have played a full 110 minutes four times, while their first match of the year, a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's, was decided in the 102nd minute.
Sunday's draw also extended Sacramento State's regular season unbeaten streak to an incredible 22 matches. The Hornets have not lost a regular season match since August of 2019 and are 12-0-10 in those matches.
Up next for the Hornets is a trip to Moscow, Idaho, to take on the Idaho Vandals next weekend.
