Box Score EUGENE, Ore. -- Sacramento State freshman right-hander Kelsey Alcantara held 5th-ranked Oregon to two hits and no runs over four innings, but the Ducks broke out for three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth in an 8-0 win over the Hornets on Sunday morning at Jane Sanders Stadium. The game was stopped in the sixth inning because of the eight-run mercy rule.
The loss wrapped up a four-game road trip in the state of Oregon that saw Sacramento State drop a pair to Oregon State, and two more to Oregon. The Ducks, currently ranked fifth in the nation in the NFCA top 25 poll and sixth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, improved to 15-1. Oregon has won six straight while outscoring the opposition, 52-4, during the winning streak.
Sacramento State dropped its fifth straight game while falling to 6-15. The Hornets are not scheduled to play again until opening Big Sky Conference play on March 26-27 at home vs. Northern Colorado.
Oregon had just two hits and three base runners through the first four innings against Alcantara as the true freshman was sharp against the nation's fifth ranked team. Alcantara was one out away from getting through the fifth inning with the shutout intact, but Oregon strung together an RBI-single from Haley Cruse and two-run single from Allee Bunker. That chased Alcantara as the Ducks would finish the fifth inning with a 3-0 lead. Oregon scored five times off three Hornet pitchers in the sixth to enforce the mercy rule.
Sacramento State had just two hits and three base runners off Oregon pitchers Raegan Breedlove (5.0 ip) and Brooke Yanez (1.0). Breedlove (3-0) got the win while Alcantara (0-1) picked up the loss.
Sacramento State's lone hits came on singles from Lewa Day and Alexis Parish. Samantha Parish also drew a walk.
Today marked the Hornets' final non-conference game of the season as the team will play 18 straight Big Sky games, beginning with the three-game home series vs. Northern Colorado on March 26-27. The Big Sky Tournament is scheduled to be played May 13-15 in Greeley, Colo.
