SOFTBALL FALLS IN THE FIRST OF TWO WEEKEND GAMES AT 5TH-RANKED OREGON

Box Score

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon's Brooke Yanez (3.2 ip) and Raegan Breelove (1.1 ip) combined on a one-hit shutout to help the 5th-ranked Ducks to an 11-0 win over Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium. The game was stopped after the top of the fifth inning because of the eight-run mercy rule.

The Hornets' trip to Oregon has not been kind thus far as Sacramento State dropped two at Oregon State yesterday. Sacramento State concludes the three-day trip with another game at Oregon tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

The loss dropped Sacramento State to 6-14 this season. Traditionally a strong program, the Hornets' record after 20 games is their worst since the 2010 team was 5-15.

The Ducks, currently ranked fifth in the nation in the NFCA top 25 poll and sixth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, improved to 14-1. Oregon has won five straight while outscoring the opposition, 44-4, during the winning streak. That included a pair of wins over the Big Sky Conference's Portland State last week (Vikings were outscored, 20-2, during those two games).

Sacramento State's lone hit today came in the fifth inning off the bat of first baseman Alondra Mejia. That proved to be the Hornets' only base runner of the game against Yanez and Breedlove.

Oregon had 11 runs and 12 hits off two Hornet pitchers, highlighted by home runs from Alyssa Brito and Terra McGowan. Brito finished 3-for-3 with three runs, a homer and five RBIs.
