VOLLEYBALL FALLS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY AT NORTHERN COLORADO

Box Score

GREELEY, Colo. -- For the second straight night, Northern Colorado dominated from the service line, and swept Sacramento State, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-18), on Monday evening at Bank of Colorado Arena.

Yesterday afternoon, Northern Colorado posted a three set sweep and had 11 aces to the Hornets' one. Tonight, it was much of the same as the Bears had 10 aces compared to just one for Sacramento State. Even when the Bears weren't compiling aces, Northern Colorado's tough serve was throwing the Hornets out of system.

The win allowed Northern Colorado to improve to 5-1 while Sacramento State dropped to 3-3. The Hornets flew to Greeley having won three straight, but lost on back-to-back days to the defending Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament champions.

Greeley has not been kind to Sacramento State, as the Hornets are 2-11 when playing on Northern Colorado's home floor.

Sacramento State's largest lead of the match was one point at 1-0 in the first set, and 5-4 in the second set. The Bears finished with healthy advantages over the Hornets in kills (35-21), hitting percentage (.247-.024), assists (29-20) and digs (38-32). Both teams had five team blocks.

The Hornets were led in kills by freshman Caitlin Volkmann (6 kills, 3 blocks) and in digs by outside hitter Macey Hayden (3 kills, 10 digs). Hayden missed yesterday's match with injury, but was back in the starting lineup this evening.

Kalani Hayes had four kills and four blocks, Sarah Falk three kills, a block and a .500 hitting percentage, Karlee Soderberg three kills and two blocks, and Bridgette Smith posted two kills and six digs. Setter Ashtin Olin had 12 assists, an ace and four digs, and McKenna Smith six assists and a pair of digs. Caty Cordano recorded six digs and Michelle Taynton three digs.

Sacramento State will return home for a pair of matches this week. The Hornets host Idaho on both Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.
